Description

Oculair Gentle Steam Therapy is a rechargeable heated mist eye mask. A session is 10 minutes. The device runs for about 80 minutes continuously on a full charge, so a 10 minute session uses roughly an eighth of what it holds. It is not running itself down while you are wearing it.

You fill the small tank using the bottle supplied, hold the power button for a few seconds, and put the mask on. It warms and releases a fine mist across both eyelids for as long as you wear it. The heat is generated by the device rather than stored in it, so it is not spending a fixed amount of warmth the way a microwaved mask does.

The soft silicone cushion rests on your cheekbones and forehead and blocks out light completely, so you can lie flat while it runs. You sit down once. No microwave, no sink, nothing to get up and reheat partway through.

Most people use it in the evening. If your eyes are worst first thing, the morning works just as well. If you are working through a flare, a stye or a chalazion and have been told to apply heat several times a day, a full charge covers about 8 sessions, so the routine does not have to be built around a plug socket.

We recommend filling it with our Eye Hydration Solution. Ordinary mineral water also works, exactly as set out in the manual, so if you run out or would simply rather use water, the device performs as designed either way.

How it works

For many people, dry eye is not really about how many tears you make. It is about how fast they disappear.

Along the edge of each eyelid sits a row of small oil glands called the meibomian glands. They produce a thin layer of oil that floats on top of your tears and slows the rate at which those tears evaporate. When that oil thickens and stops flowing properly, the tear film breaks up within seconds of a blink. That is where the burning, the stinging and the redness come from.

Warmth is what softens the oil, and this is not new advice. Most people reading this have already been told by an optometrist to use a warm compress. The instruction is correct. What almost nobody is ever asked is what they are using to carry it out.

Two things have to happen before a warm compress achieves anything. The heat has to travel through the eyelid before it reaches the oil, which takes several minutes. And it has to still be there when it arrives.

This is where most methods fail, and it is not a quality problem. It is a category problem. A washcloth or a microwaved mask stores heat. It holds a fixed amount and starts spending it the second it touches your face, into your skin, into the air, into the room. Nothing is putting any heat back in. So it is hottest at the start, when you are checking it is not too hot to put on, and coldest at the end, when you believe you are doing the treatment. You have no way of knowing what is actually against your eyelid at minute 6.

Oculair does not carry heat to your eyes. It generates heat at the eye, continuously, for as long as it is switched on. That is a different category of device rather than a better version of the same one. A microwaved mask has no energy source inside it, so this is not something a passive mask can be redesigned to fix.

The mist matters for a separate reason. It carries the warmth in water vapour instead of a hot dry pad, which stops the skin around your eyes drying out across 10 minutes of continuous heat. There are 2 mist settings. Start on low.

Eye drops are not the enemy here, and you do not need to stop using them. Drops replace the water in the tear film. This is aimed at the oil. Most people who get on with it use both.

The last step is the one people skip. Once the oil has softened, blinking is what spreads it back across the surface of the eye. Blink firmly 10 times at the end of every session. It takes 10 seconds and it matters as much as the heat that came before it.

Will this help my dry eye?

Heat is aimed at one specific cause of dry eye. It is worth knowing whether that is yours before you spend anything, including on this.

Warmth is likely to be relevant if
  • An optometrist or doctor has already told you to use warm compresses
  • You have been diagnosed with meibomian gland dysfunction, blepharitis or evaporative dry eye
  • You get recurring styes or chalazia
  • Your eyes are worse the longer you are awake, or worse on screens, in air conditioning, or in wind
  • Your tear film breaks up quickly, which is a low tear break up time
Warmth is probably not your answer if

Your dry eye is aqueous deficient, meaning you are not producing enough tear volume in the first place, or nerve driven. Sjögren's, some autoimmune conditions, and some post surgical and neuropathic cases sit here. Warming the oil glands does not address any of those, and no amount of heat will change it.

If nobody has established which type you have, a Schirmer test and a tear break up time from your optometrist will tell you. It is worth doing before you buy anything else at all. We would rather you found that out first than bought this and returned it.

What realistic improvement looks like

People who do well with heat tend to describe themselves as 70 to 90 percent better, and they use the word managed rather than cured. Dry eye is a chronic condition. This is a routine you keep, not a course you finish.

Most people notice nothing in week 1. If something is going to change, it usually starts somewhere in weeks 2 to 4, and it comes from doing it consistently rather than doing it for longer. A short session every day does more than a long session once a week.

What this cannot do
  • It cannot unblock or express your glands. That is a clinical procedure carried out by a specialist.
  • It cannot clear a stye or a chalazion in time for a specific date, and you should not buy it on that basis.
  • It is not a replacement for a prescription treatment your doctor has put you on.
  • If you use it twice and stop, it will not do anything at all.
What’s included
  • Oculair Gentle Steam Therapy device
  • Water filling bottle with a fine tip, so the tank fills without spills
  • USB-C charging cable
  • User manual and certificate

Liquid is not included. The device runs on our Eye Hydration Solution, which we recommend, or on ordinary mineral water. Each session uses only a small amount, so a bottle lasts a long time.

80 min continuous run 10 min rated session ~8 sessions per charge 2 heat levels 2 mist levels Continuous mist clean cycle 850 mAh 3 hr full charge USB-C 210 × 63 × 100 mm 220 g Manufacturer spec: 42°C ±3°C Background music, mutable
How to use
  • Take your contact lenses out first. Every session, without exception.
  • Fill the tank. Lift the silicone plug, add Eye Hydration Solution or mineral water with the supplied bottle without overfilling, then close the plug firmly.
  • Turn it on. Hold the power button for 3 to 4 seconds. It starts on heat level 1 and high mist.
  • Adjust it. A short press of the function button changes the mist, and you should drop it to low for your first few sessions. A short press of the power button changes the heat level. If the warmth is not clearly noticeable after 2 to 3 minutes, move it up to level 2. A long press of the function button turns the music off.
  • Wear it for 10 minutes, with the cushion sitting firmly against your face so the heat transfers properly.
  • Blink firmly 10 times at the end of the session.
  • Turn it off. The device does not switch itself off. Hold the power button when your session ends.
How often

For ongoing dry eye or MGD: once a day, every day. Morning or evening is up to you, so pick whichever one you will actually keep to, and use it at the same time each day. Consistency matters considerably more than length.

For an active stye, chalazion or blepharitis flare: your doctor has probably told you to apply heat 3 to 4 times a day, or more. A full charge covers about 8 sessions, so you can do that without planning your day around a microwave. Follow whatever frequency you were given.

Liquid

Use our Eye Hydration Solution or mineral water, and nothing else. Tap water and any thicker liquid are not recommended by the manufacturer. Purified water is for rinsing the tank, not for running the device. Pour out whatever is left after every session.

Continuous mist is a cleaning setting, not a treatment setting. Running it during a session produces more mist than the eye area can handle and water will collect around your eyes. Use high or low mist instead.

Cleaning

After each session, pour out whatever is left in the tank, wipe the body and the mist outlets with a tissue or soft cloth, and stand the device filling port down so the last of the liquid drains out. Nothing needs replacing and there are no filters. Rinse the tank with purified water when it needs it. Never hold it under a running tap, and never clean it with alcohol or bleach.

If the mist weakens over time, run the device on continuous mist for about 3 minutes, since that setting exists to clear the mist outlets. If that does not fix it, mineral deposits are the usual cause: add household white vinegar to the tank, leave it about 3 minutes, run the device, then rinse the tank out thoroughly with clean water.

Safety

The mask should feel warm but never hot. Stop immediately if you feel pain or burning. The device cannot be used while it is charging, and it does not have an automatic shut off, so turn it off yourself at the end of a session.

Please speak to your doctor before using it if you have retinal detachment, retinal bleeding or a similar eye condition, if you have any implant or support in your head or face, if you have lasting complications from a head or eye injury, if you have a neurological or sensory condition affecting your head, face or skin, if you cannot properly sense hot and cold, if you have a history of allergic reactions, or if you are pregnant or recently postpartum. Do not use it if you have a fever or feel unwell, or over broken skin, eczema, sunburn or any inflamed or abnormal area.

Your vision may be slightly blurry for a few minutes after a session. This is normal and passes on its own, but you should not drive immediately afterwards.

Do you offer a guarantee?

You have almost certainly tried something for your eyes before that did not do what you hoped. That is why every Oculair® order is backed by our 60 night money back guarantee.

We set the window at 60 nights rather than 30 on purpose. Most people notice nothing in week 1, and if anything changes it usually starts in weeks 2 to 4. A 30 day window would close before you had finished testing it properly, which is not a fair test of a routine.

If it has not helped by then, contact us and we will refund you. You do not have to justify it to us.

Your device is also protected by a 1 year warranty.

“I’m finally feeling like myself again”

I’ve dealt with dry eyes, redness and recurring styes for about 2 years, and it honestly made me feel so unattractive sometimes. I could do my hair and makeup and still feel like my eyes made me look exhausted or sick. I started using this consistently a few weeks ago and the redness and irritation have improved so much. My eyes finally look more like me again, and I’m not avoiding photos or checking them in every mirror anymore.

“My eyes don’t fall apart halfway through work anymore”

I’m a graphic designer so I’m on two monitors 8 to 10 hours most days. I had eye drops beside my keyboard, a humidifier under my desk and even bought blue light glasses because my eyes were constantly burning. Nothing really changed until I started doing this every night. It’s been about 5 weeks and I realized the other day I hadn’t touched the drops on my desk all week. 100% recommend!

“I can finally wear my contacts without thinking about my eyes”

I’ve worn contacts for almost 8 years and the irritation got really bad over the last 2. I switched contact brands twice, tried probably 4 different drops and still kept glasses in my bag because I’d end up needing them. My optometrist had been telling me to do warm compresses forever, but I never stayed consistent with the washcloth. I’ve been using this for about a month now and I can finally wear my contacts for a full day again without constantly wanting them out.

The Same Instruction, Two Different Ways

Your optometrist told you to do a warm compress. Nobody checked what you were doing it with.

Before

Months of it. Nothing changed.

The washcloth. The microwave mask. Every night, and no difference. It was cooling from the second it touched your face, so the heat was gone before it ever reached the oil.

After After using Oculair

10 minutes that stay warm.

Fill it, press the button, lie back. The warmth is still there at minute 10, so the heat is present the whole time it needs to be.

Warm therapy is cumulative. It works over 2 to 4 weeks of daily use, not in one session.

How It Works

Your eyelids make an oil that stops your tears drying up. When it thickens, it stops coming out. Warmth is what gets it moving again.

OIL GLAND tears dry faster 1

The oil goes thick

Like butter in a cold kitchen. It can’t get out of the gland, so your tears dry up faster than you make them.

STEADY WARMTH warm for 10 minutes steady heat softens the oil 2

Warmth melts it soft

Oil starts moving at about 40 °C. Oculair holds its warmth for the full ten minutes, instead of losing it while you wear it.

BLINK oil helps protect your tears 3

Blinking pumps it out

Blink firmly ten times. Blinking is the pump — the soft oil spreads over your tears like a lid.

Where the 10 minutes actually goes

Heat travelling to the glands ~6 min
What’s left of a compress ~4 min
Oculair, held throughout 10 min
05 min10 min

Heat has to travel through the eyelid before it reaches the oil. In one study a cloth compress took about 6 minutes to bring the inner lid to 40.4 °C — and a cloth is cooling the entire time. Most of the session is spent arriving, and almost none of it working. You weren’t doing it wrong. Your compress couldn’t hold the heat.

Oculair vs. Other Brands

  • Heat that lasts the whole session — a bead mask or a washcloth holds a fixed amount and loses it from the second it touches you. This one generates its own for the full ten minutes

  • You sit down once — one button, 10 minutes, no standing at the microwave 3 or 4 times a session

  • Regulated, not open ended — a thermostat rather than a hot object, and 2 heat levels so you choose the dose. You can’t feel a burn coming through a closed eyelid, so the regulation matters

5 Reasons Why

Oculair Works Differently From Everything You’ve Tried

Oculair worn while lying back
Reason 1

Heat That Doesn’t Quit Halfway

The oil only softens around 40 °C, and heat needs minutes to travel through the eyelid. A washcloth or bead mask is cooling the whole time it’s on. Oculair generates its warmth instead of carrying it, so it’s still there at minute 10.

A routine that fits into the day
Reason 2

A Routine You’ll Actually Keep

Most people have quietly stopped doing warm compresses within a few weeks, and then conclude compresses don’t work for them. One button, 10 minutes, and you sit down once — no standing at the microwave 3 or 4 times a session.

Warmth you can feel without it running hot
Reason 3

You Choose The Dose

You can’t feel a burn coming through a closed eyelid, and you shouldn’t have to guess. Oculair regulates its temperature rather than simply getting as hot as it can, and it has 2 heat levels so you can start on the lower one.

Back in contact lenses comfortably
Reason 4

Aimed At The Lid, Not The Lens

You’ve switched brand two or three times and you’re still taking them out mid afternoon. Every drop and every lens change is aimed at the surface of your eye. The oil that holds your tear film together comes from the lid margin behind it. Remove lenses before each session.

At home instead of in a clinic
Reason 5

The In-Office Version Isn’t Doing More

A 2024 Cochrane review of LipiFlow pooled 13 trials and 1,155 participants. In the 5 trials that compared it against a basic warm compress, the reviewers found limited evidence of a clinically meaningful difference. The difference was never the machine. It’s whether the heat lasts.

Feel the Difference

Aimed At The Lid, Not The Surface

Almost everything sold for dry eyes treats the surface of the eye. The oil comes from behind your lash line. Tap any of these to see how it applies to you.

Comfortable outdoors in daylight Gritty And WateringDry eyes that stream all day.

The one that makes no sense until someone explains it. Your eyelids make a thin oil that floats on your tears and slows them evaporating. When that oil thickens, tears vanish faster than you can make them, and your eye responds by flooding, which is why eyes can feel dry and gritty and stream at the same time.

The oil only begins to move at around 40 °C, and higher if it has been stuck a long time. Oculair holds its warmth for the full 10 minutes so the heat is still there when it finally reaches the glands.

Softening threshold: Borchman, The Ocular Surface (2019). 10 minute daily warming protocol: TFOS DEWS III (2025).

Wearing contact lenses comfortably Contact Lenses4 good hours, then out they come.

You have almost certainly switched brand already. Monthlies to a daily, that daily to a different one. Each switch buys about 3 weeks, then the same afternoon burning comes back at the same time.

Every drop and every lens change is aimed at the surface of your eye. The oil that stops your tear film breaking down comes from the lid margin, a few millimeters behind it. A lens sits on top of a tear film that is already failing, which is why comfort drops help for 11 minutes at a time.

Warmth is the only part of the routine aimed at the lid itself. Remove your lenses before each session.

Working comfortably at a screen Screens And Office AirThe ache that starts mid-day.

Screen related eye discomfort is close to universal among people who work at a monitor. A pooled review of 45 studies and 17,526 people put it at around two thirds. You blink far less at a screen, and air conditioning strips whatever tear film is left.

Which is why a new monitor doesn’t fix it. Blue light glasses don’t either. None of them change the oil layer, and that is the part breaking down by the afternoon.

Blinking is the pump: once the oil is soft, blinking is what moves it. So the routine is warmth first, then 10 firm blinks when the mask comes off. That is the step people skip, and the one that does the work.

Computer vision syndrome pooled prevalence 66% (95% CI 59–74%), 45 cross-sectional studies: Alemayehu et al., Scientific Reports (2023). Prevalence varies widely by country; treat the pooled figure as indicative.

Doing eye makeup Makeup And The Lash LineCrusted no matter how much you clean.

There are around 25 oil glands along the base of each lash line, and their openings sit about a pencil line from where liner goes. Most people find that out from a leaflet, after the second or third stye.

So the mascara goes in the bin, then the liner, then the shadows. It may never have been the makeup. A lash line that looks unclean while you are cleansing it twice a day is not a hygiene problem. The debris is coming from glands that aren’t clearing.

Cleansing works on the outside of the lid. Warmth is the part aimed at what is inside it. Remove eye makeup before a session, and give it 2 to 4 weeks before you judge it.

Waking up in morning light MorningsLids that don’t want to open.

The morning is where the compress routine usually collapses. Cloth compresses lose heat quickly, so it takes 3 or 4 trips to the microwave before you have even started your day, and most people stop at the second.

Oculair is one button and 10 minutes. You put it on, lie back, and get on with the day.

Cloth compresses lose heat rapidly and took about 6 minutes to bring the inner lid to 40.4 °C: Blackie et al. (2008).

Oculair in its place at home Sticking With ItThe part almost everyone quits.

A routine built around standing at a microwave, twice a day, indefinitely, is a badly designed routine. Most people abandon it inside 6 weeks, and then conclude that warm compresses don’t work for them.

Warm therapy is cumulative. It works over 2 to 4 weeks of daily use, not in one session. So the version you keep doing is the only version that matters, and that is a design problem rather than a discipline problem.

Which is also why the guarantee runs 60 nights rather than 30. A shorter window would close before you had finished testing it.

Your Questions Answered

Why is this more than a $20 heated mask?

Because the mask was never the wrong idea — it just goes cold. A microwaved mask begins losing heat the moment it leaves the microwave and keeps losing it the entire time you wear it, so you have no idea what temperature is actually against your eyelid at minute 6.

You are not paying for heat. You are paying for a device that is still producing it at minute 10, without you reheating anything.

I wear contact lenses. Can I still use this?

Yes, but take them out first. Every session should be done on bare eyes, and you can put lenses back in afterwards once your vision has settled.

It is worth knowing why lens comfort fades in the first place. A lens sits on your tear film, and when the oil layer thins out that film breaks up faster. Drops and rewetting solutions top up the water. The oil comes from the lid margin behind your lashes, which is the part a drop was never going to reach.

I’ve stopped wearing eye makeup because of this. When can I go back?

That is a conversation for you and your optometrist, not us. What we can tell you is that eye makeup should always be removed before a session, and that warm therapy is cumulative and works over two to four weeks of daily use.

The other thing worth knowing: there are around 25 oil glands along the base of each lash line, and their openings sit very close to where liner goes. A lash line that looks unclean while you are cleansing it twice a day is usually not a hygiene problem.

If you have a lump on the lid that is not shifting, or one that keeps returning in the same spot, see your optometrist rather than waiting.

My eyes water constantly. Can they really be dry?

It’s the most common thing people find confusing, and yes. When the oil layer breaks down, tears evaporate too quickly and the eye responds by flooding — so dryness and watering usually arrive together rather than being opposites.

That said, if your issue turns out to be tear volume rather than the oil layer, heat is less likely to be your answer. Worth asking your optometrist for a Schirmer test before you spend anything.

How quickly will I notice results?

Warmth is cumulative. It takes a few weeks of daily use to show, not one session, so give it three weeks of 10 minutes a day before you judge it.

That is also why the guarantee runs 60 nights rather than 30. A shorter window would close before you had finished testing it properly.

Can it get too hot on closed eyelids?

It regulates its temperature rather than simply getting as hot as it can, and it keeps generating heat for as long as it is switched on. There are 2 heat levels so you can start on the lower one. The mask should feel warm but never hot — stop immediately if you feel pain or burning.

Give it 2 to 3 minutes at the start of a session for the warmth to become properly noticeable.

Heat has made my eyes feel worse before. Will this?

A fair worry, and a common one. Uncontrolled heat — a washcloth straight from hot water, or a mask out of the microwave — starts far hotter than it needs to be and then falls away. Oculair holds one steady temperature instead of spiking.

If warmth stings or your eyes feel worse afterwards, stop and speak to your optometrist. Not every dry eye is the evaporative kind.

Is this safe to use every day?

Daily use is the point. One 10 minute session a day is enough, and consistency matters considerably more than length — a short session every day will do more than a long session once a week.

Speak to your doctor first if you have a retinal condition, an implant in your head or face, lasting complications from a head or eye injury, a neurological or sensory condition affecting the area, difficulty sensing hot and cold, a history of allergic reactions, or if you are pregnant or recently postpartum.

How is this different from the in-office treatment?

A 2024 Cochrane review of LipiFlow pooled 13 randomised trials and 1,155 participants. 5 of those trials compared it against a basic warm compress, and the reviewers found limited evidence of a clinically meaningful difference in meibomian gland expression, meibum quality or tear break up time.

The difference was never the machine. It is whether the heat is held long enough, and whether you can actually keep doing it.

Pucker AD et al. LipiFlow for the treatment of dry eye disease. Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews, 2024. DOI 10.1002/14651858.CD015448.pub2

Can I still use eye drops with it?

Keep using them if they help. They do different jobs: artificial tears replace the water in the tear film, but they do not affect the oil. Warmth is what softens the oil.

If what you need is twenty minutes of relief right now, use the drops. This is for the part drops were never going to fix.

Why do I have to blink afterwards?

Once the oil has softened, blinking is what spreads it back across the surface of the eye. At the end of the session, blink firmly 10 times — it takes no more than 10 seconds, and it matters as much as the heat that preceded it.

What liquid do I use?

We recommend our Eye Hydration Solution for regular use, but ordinary mineral water is fine as well.

Tap water, purified water and any thicker liquid are not recommended by the manufacturer. Pour out whatever is left after every session.

What’s in the box?

The Oculair device, a fine-tip water filling bottle, a USB-C charging cable, and the user manual and certificate.

Liquid is not included. Each session uses only a small amount, so a bottle lasts a long time.

How long does the battery last?

80 minutes per charge from an 850 mAh battery, which is about eight 10 minute sessions, and roughly 3 hours to charge fully over USB-C.

The device cannot be used while it is charging.

My doctor hasn’t recommended this. Should I be concerned?

Most people reading this have already been told by an optometrist to use a warm compress. The advice was never the problem — holding the heat long enough for it to work was. Oculair is a way of actually delivering what you were already told to do.

Bring it up at your next appointment. If they suggest something different for your case, follow their advice.

What if it doesn’t work for me?

Send it back. Every order is backed by our 60-night money-back guarantee — contact us and we will make it right, no questions asked.

Your device is also protected by a 1-year warranty.

I’ve had dry eyes for years and would randomly get styes which made me so self-conscious. I was always checking how red my eyes looked in photos. Been using this pretty consistently for the last month and they look and feel so much better. I’m not thinking about my eyes every time I do my makeup anymore.

“The mid-day eye drops are basically gone”

I work in accounting and am on my laptop all day. I literally had eye drops sitting beside me because by mid-afternoon my eyes would be burning and I’d struggle to focus. I started using this after work around 5 weeks ago and realized last week I hadn’t touched the bottle at my desk in days. That alone sold me on it.

“I was so over reheating that stupid mask”

I already knew warm compresses helped me, I just hated doing them. My microwave mask would be almost too hot at first and then somehow barely warm a few minutes later, so half the time I just stopped bothering. This is probably the first version of the routine I haven’t gotten annoyed with. I put it on once, leave it alone, and I’ve actually been consistent for once. My eyes have been noticeably calmer since.

“I can actually wear my contacts again”

I’ve worn contacts since I was 17 and the last couple years they became so uncomfortable that I’d bring glasses everywhere because I knew I’d eventually have to take them out. Tried different lenses, solutions, rewetting drops, all of it. My optometrist kept mentioning warm compresses so I finally got serious about doing them. I’ve been using this consistently for a few weeks and I’m back to wearing my contacts most of the day without constantly wanting them out.

Bought this because my optometrist had been telling me for months to be more consistent with heat and I knew I wasn’t doing it enough. I’ve been doing this most nights for about a month and there’s been a pretty noticeable difference. I’m not waking up with that dry, irritated feeling every morning anymore and I don’t think about my eyes nearly as much during the day.
